E. A. Poe’s poem The Raven tells the tormented night of a man grieving the death of his beloved Lenore. A raven enters through the window and perches upon the bust of Pallas Athena, symbol of reason. The man begins questioning it about his pain and about Lenore, asking whether he will ever see her again in the afterlife. The raven answers always and only with one word: 'Nevermore!' And with every question, that answer becomes more devastating, turning from a mere echo into a sentence—the certainty that his sorrow will never end. In the final stanza, the raven remains still like an eternal omen, while the man realizes that his soul will be trapped forever in its own darkness, beneath the bird’s shadow.
